Product safety & allergy information
Everything you need to know before you squeeze. Please read this page before giving one of our toys to a child, and keep it in mind every time you use one.
Read this first
- Ages 3 and over only. Contains small parts — choking hazard. Keep away from babies, toddlers and pets.
- Never cut, pierce, bite or open a squishy. The gel, beads or liquid inside are not meant to touch skin, eyes or mouth.
- Never heat a squishy. No microwave, no oven, no hot water, no radiator, no direct sunlight in a car. Heated material can deform and cause burns.
- Not food. They look like dumplings. They are not edible and must never go in the mouth.
- Stop using immediately if the toy splits or leaks, or if your skin becomes red, itchy or sore.
What our squishies are made of
Our squeeze toys are made from thermoplastic rubber (TPR), polypropylene (PP), polyurethane (PU) and other plastics, with added colourants. Depending on the model, the shell may be filled with a soft gel, glitter suspended in gel, water beads or air.
These materials are widely used in toys, but no material is free of risk for everyone. If you or your child has a known sensitivity to plastics, rubbers, plasticisers or synthetic dyes, please do not use our products. If you need the material breakdown for one specific item before ordering, contact us and we will tell you what we know about that item.
Our toys are not marketed as latex-free, fragrance-free, or hypoallergenic, and we make no such claim.
Skin contact, irritation and allergic reactions
Squeeze toys are handled for long stretches at a time, often by children. Prolonged skin contact with any plastic or rubber item can cause redness, itching, dryness or a rash in sensitive people, and in rare cases an allergic contact reaction.
To reduce the risk:
- Wash hands after playing, and before eating.
- Do not use a squishy on broken, irritated or freshly shaved skin.
- Do not sleep with a squishy pressed against the skin.
- Keep it out of eyes and away from the face.
- Give a new toy to a child under supervision the first few times.
If a reaction happens
Stop using the toy straight away and take it away from the child.
Wash the area with mild soap and lukewarm water. Do not scrub.
Seek medical advice. Contact emergency services for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or mouth, or a burn.
Please also let us know. We record every report, and it helps us act on a batch if something is wrong with it.
Heat, cold and burns
Our toys are not designed to be heated or frozen, and doing so is unsafe. Do not microwave a squishy, put it in boiling water, place it on a radiator, leave it on a windowsill or in a parked car in the sun, or put it in the freezer.
Heat can soften or melt the shell, and hot material stuck to skin can cause a burn that is hard to remove. Freezing can make the shell brittle so it splits under pressure. Store your squishies at normal room temperature, out of direct sunlight.
If a squishy splits or leaks
A squishy that has been over-stretched, punctured or squeezed against a sharp edge can split. If that happens:
- Take it away from children and pets immediately.
- Do not let the contents touch eyes or mouth. Rinse skin with water.
- If contents get into the eyes, rinse with clean water for several minutes and seek medical advice.
- If contents are swallowed, seek medical advice or call your local poison control centre.
- Wipe the area, bag the toy and dispose of it with household waste. Do not repair it.
Care and everyday use
- Wipe with a damp cloth and let it air dry. Do not put it in a washing machine or dishwasher.
- Do not use solvents, bleach, alcohol gel or abrasive cleaners on it.
- Keep away from sharp nails, pets, jewellery and rough surfaces.
- Check the toy from time to time and retire it as soon as the shell looks worn, sticky, cracked or discoloured.
- Remove and discard all packaging before giving a toy to a child.
